El trabajo muestra por primera vez cómo la melatonina sintetizada por linfocitos humanos tiene un importante papel en la regulación del sistema inmune a través de la modulación del sistema IL-2/IL-2R.

El presente trabajo muestra la capacidad que tienen los linfocitos humanos para sintetizar melatonina y cómo esta melatonina regula la producción del mediador inmunológico interlequina-2 y su receptor a través de la unión a sus receptores específicos de membrana y nucleares. Asimismo, se muestra una interacción funcional entre la melatonina endógena y la administrada en forma exógena.
