Anastrozole vs. tamoxifen as first line therapy for advanced breast cancer

Abstract
Anastrozole is a non steroidal aromatase inhibitor which is highly potent and specific. No steroid hormone plasma changes were observed after anastrozole doses 100 to 200 times its effective aromatase inhibiting dose (Dukes, 1996). In postmenopausal women with breast cancer, aromatase activity was decreased after 1 or 10 mg, at a level respectively of 96.7 and 98% (Geisler, 1996).
