Abstract
Primary angioplasty is the best treatment for patients with acute myocardial infarction, but this reperfusion strategy is still under-used. The main reason for the under-utilization of primary angioplasty is the necessity of an adequate infra-structure and well-trained personnel, these conditions being fulfilled in a low proportion of hospitals. Because of that, during the last years, the possibility of transferring patients with acute myocardial infarction from non-invasive centres to hospitals with primary angioplasty facilities has been proposed. In this review, we summarize the current available data supporting this strategy (transferring patients with acute myocardial infarction to centres with primary angioplasty facilities), as well as the conditions, advantages and inconveniences of this strategy.

Key words
Acute myocardial infarction, coronary angioplasty, thrombolysis
