OSTEOSARCOPENIA Y RIESGO DE FRACTURAS OSTEOPÓROTICAS

La sarcopenia es un síndrome caracterizado por la pérdida de la masa muscular esquelética y fuerza muscular asociada a una reducción de la capacidad funcional. La sarcopenia asociada a la edad incrementa el riesgo de caída y fractura en adultos mayores. Como estos pueden presentar simultáneamente osteoporosis y sarcopenia, la evaluación de la masa muscular permitiría identificar los adultos mayores con mayor riesgo de sufrir fracturas por fragilidad ósea.
