El trabajo demuestra que a pesar del elevado nivel de colesterol plasmático, la rapamicina ejerce un potente efecto ateroprotector en ratones hipercolsterolémicos.

LA RAPAMICINA INHIBE EL PROCESO ATEROGÉNICO EN RATONES HIPERCOLESTEROLÉMICOS

La rapamicina es eficaz en el tratamiento de la arteriosclerosis inducida por dieta proaterogénica. Este efecto ateroprotector es independiente de los niveles de p27Kip1 y puede deberse, en parte, a una disminución en la pared arterial de los niveles de reguladores positivos del ciclo celular y de la citoquina quimioatrayente MCP-1/CCL2.
