CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS IDENTIFYING BRAIN ATROPHY IN OLDER PATIENTS WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER
Clinical characteristics that may identify bipolar patients at high risk for developing brain atrophy in late life remain undiscovered. Forty-four bipolar I patients aged beyond 60 years were recruited in this study. Thirty-three of them had brain atrophy on structural magnetic resonance imaging at 1.5 T. The positive history of rapid cycling and lower hemoglobin levels during affective episodes provided the greatest predictive validity for brain atrophy.

UROFLOWMETRY IN A LARGE POPULATION OF ASYMPTOMATIC MEN
TThe aim of this study was to assess the uroflowmetry data in a large population of asymptomatic Brazilian men submitted to a health check up program and correlate this data with prostate symptoms and prostate size. A total of 1041 men between 40 and 70 men, with IPSS< 7 and PSA < 4.0 ng/ml were included in this analysis. The average population age was 49 years and the average flow rate was 17.4 ml/s. Despite of prostate size and symptoms increase with age, there was a weak correlation between different Qmax cutoffs (10 ml/s and 15 ml/s). Even men above 60 years old had average Qmax higher than 15 ml/s. We believe that the establishment of a normal uroflow cutoff seems to be complicated and uroflowmetry data should be interpreted with caution in order to avoid misdiagnosis. Qmax: maximum flow rate
