The work focuses on how compulsory licensing of patent rights may be helpful in addressing the access to medicines problem in Africa. The paper argues that there is a compelling need for African countries to collaborate to build strong pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity in the continent now that the current flexibilities in international intellectual property law offer considerable benefits.
